Why volunteer with Oxford Mencap?

Volunteers don't just take just part because they are all wonderful people, you can gain lots too. You'll make lots of new friends among the other volunteers and have a fantastic time - that's why some of our volunteers have been taking part for years! You can also add up some CV points in teamwork, leadership and any careers related to psychology, medicine, teaching or care, and complete your Duke of Edinburgh award. So even though we can't give you a wage, volunteering with Oxford Mencap can give you a lot more!

But I haven't got any skills?

You don't need any! All our activities are lead by experienced volunteers and backed up by professional support. So the only skills you need are a sense of fun and lots of energy to take part in all the great fun. So don't worry, give it a go.

What can I do to help?

We are currently looking for volunteers for many of our activities.

Committee Members

Oxford Mencap needs new committee members to help support the work of the existing committee of around 10, including a secretary, vice-chairperson and fund raisers. The role involves one evening a month, then whatever you are able to do in between helping us with administration, to raise money and supporting our activities. We ask for around 6hrs per month. Whilst it is important to have ideas the most useful thing is taking a bit of time each month to do something new for us, be that attending a sponsored swim, helping find the new minibus supplier, researching new holiday venues – whatever it takes.

Oxford Mencap runs a 7 O'Clock club for over 200 members and summer holidays for over 80 people each year. Working on the committee is very rewarding when it you see the care and support that we can provide, so please do get in touch with us. For more information, please contact katie.hollier@yahoo.co.uk or ring Katie Hollier 07740 630597 , Committee Member or Barbara Bird, Chairperson 01865 557489.
